Refract turns a song, or the soundtrack of a video you made, and a few photographs into a video that actually moves with the music — beats, drops and all — entirely on your iPhone.
Start from a song in Files, iCloud Drive or Voice Memos — or take the sound from a video you made, straight from Photos or Files, or from a direct link to an audio or video file. Refract checks the video first, keeps only its sound, lets you play it before you start, and can save it as an audio file of its own.
Refract follows your iPhone's Light or Dark appearance, or stays in the one you choose in Settings. The canvas and the timeline stay dark either way, so the colours you pick look the way they will in the video.
Refract analyzes your track before it draws anything: tempo, every beat, where the drops are, and how the song divides into sections. That analysis runs on your device in a fraction of a second, and everything you see afterwards is built on it.
Pick one of six looks and Refract builds the whole thing — visualizers that answer the frequencies, photo cuts landing on downbeats, effects that swell into the drop and settle after it. Not a filter running over your video; an edit composed from the structure of the song.
A real multi-track editor underneath: eight visualizers, eight overlays, twenty effects, text, and per-clip timing you can drag. Every element has its own in and out points, and every parameter can be bound to the bass, the mids or the treble.
Export at 9:16, 4:5, 1:1 or 16:9, with presets for the places you actually post. What you see in the preview is exactly what renders, because both are the same function of the same timestamp.
No — those are DRM-protected and no app is allowed to read them. Refract works with music you own: an audio file from Files or shared in from another app, or the sound from a video you made. That restriction comes from Apple, and it applies to every app of this kind.
No. Your music, your photographs and the videos you make never leave your iPhone. There is no account and no tracking — Refract only counts which features get used, anonymously and with no identifier. See the privacy policy.
Yes, with unlimited projects and exports, all four shapes, your own photos and the full timeline editor. The free tier includes a selection of the catalogue and exports up to 1080p at 30 fps, up to ten minutes, with a small Refract mark. Refract Pro opens the whole catalogue — every visualizer, overlay, effect and look, plus the Text tool — and adds 4K at 60 fps, any length, and no mark. The yearly plan starts with a free trial, and anything you have already made keeps working and keeps exporting either way.
